francesco tristano really needs no introduction lately, his music speaks volumes and his reputation precedes him with that said we are happy to share place on lafayette with you once again, this time including some stunning remixes. the first one is a collaboration between two highly respected artists: thomas gandey and radio slave. the two take the track further into tech-house territory with the percussion driving while multiple layers begin the fall into one another, achieving a beautifully elegant and jazzy end result. gutis vision is much deeper, with hints of dub here and there as the artists drives the tension up and creates a stunning groove. the final remix come from tuff city kids, who are known for their sometimes unconventional approach to making music, and in this case, it works. they channel a raw vibe and create something that is quite possibly the furthest thing from the original in terms of percussion. the pianos keep the thread strong, and the rhythm takes care of the rest.

benales opens the e.p. with radiate, a track where you can clearly hear his influences of the american school of 90s minimal techno. long time dj but new on the production side, this is benales first effort on vinyl. after his initial masterpiece on knotweed records (kw006) and a handful of releases on demented (hiss 1992) and krill, opuswerk is back on knotweed with displacement, a trippy, hard hitting, analogic techno attack: no concession on this one! gonzalo md has already delivered the goods on both knotweed (kw004 and kw011) and decision making theory (dmt 006), as well as a fantastic ep recently on extrasolar. here, with sharp oscillation, he keeps developing his unique style, producing a highly percussive, almost samba-like, piece of techno. label owner philippe petit closes the e.p. with indian summer, a track moving along a warm bassline, bearing some recognisable krautrock influences.

the jazzinvaders went back into the studio after two successful tours with hammond legend dr lonnie smith and the brazilian fusion group azymuth. the jazzinvaders decided it would be fun to spend some time in the studio to see if they could come up with a disco-jazz album.

bass cadet records is excited to introduce its new series : orbits. originally established in 2012, the label also stands a little vinyl corner on weserstrasse since june 2013, right in the middle of the always bubbling neighborhood of berlin-neukölln. curated from the recordstore, the series is dedicated to the artists who support it and make its life. leaning on strong ties of respect and friendship, orbits will consist of a slew of releases featuring some of the most inspiring and influential artists of the electronic music scene. orbits will start with a re-issue of two ron trent timeless jams out of his “dance classic” album, released on prescription on cd only in 2009.

in collaboration with aniara records sankt goran presents an old swedish release that has been released as promo only in 1999. its a release called slobban by a late 90s trio of jens johansson, peter gustafsson and carl magnus ernström from falun in the woods of dalarna, two hours north of stockholm. almost classic detroit techno tracks with some jazzy influences from these guys that have been playing around and tweeking their deep bass nine, tb-303, korg dw8000 and yamaha dx7 & dx10, sprinkling some samples on top with the casio fz-10m since 1994. the peepz of aniara were so impressed by this obscure record that they found it essential to get a small run back avaialble for the many vinyl heads around. vinyl only release of these great swedish techno tracks somehow in the vein of the breakthrough tracks of aril brihka. nice one!

‘this is eleanore mills’ was her debut and only album, recorded for the sylvia robinson’s all platinum subsidiary astroscope in 1974. the album was produced by harry ray and al goodman of the moments and tommy keith of the rimshots. it includes some great crossover and modern soul cuts, including the in-demand string laden early soul/disco ‘same routine’ a popular killer cut and ‘i’m gonna get you’ another superb up tempo soul cut. ‘fascinating devastating man’ is a lovely mid tempo track. the album includes some beautiful soul ballads ‘he said goodbye’, ‘how can i love you’ and the heavily sampled ‘telegram’ which she rips up, plus ‘teach me’ an amazing near seven minute opus which picks up a heavier groove half way through.

after 9 years of silence, here’s the 11th album from the unclassifiable brussels-based duo. with their usual tamping drums (just mention the two parts of “the decision to exist” or “same area”, led by a ferocious 808), a regular bass guitar hammering, some bare minimum poor voices, threatened violins, skinbound flute and oboe here and there, a distorted furious piano everywhere and finally some tiny cautious optimism (the extra-human guitar in “enough slaps”), the whole is carefully assembled in order to obtain an accurate picture of life on earth. “pain” and “pleasure” are different aspects of the same mental construction.

freamon is a denizen of the modern world, allegedly hailing from ny, according to some, not relevant, says he. what matters is the music -in this case- three finely honed and carefully crafted dancefloor gems, presented together as “the black grid ep”, served up with love the way they used to be, the way they ought to be.

on a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind africaine 808: d leyers and nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. in front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. the boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as blind double d . they offered to bring him home and record him. he turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good bourbon. he explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of bourbon and to be left alone. the boys got him the bottle, and recorded blind d.d. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. this added some extra funk to the recording. with dirk and nomad s usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. we hope you ll enjoy it as much as we do.

reversed is the fourth album from french composer / sound designer franck zaragoza and his ever-expressive ocoeur nom de plume. the opening swell and passionate piano that precedes it sets the tone for what could very well be zaragoza s most personally ardent set of compositions to date. zaragoza thoughtfully augments his modern solo piano compositions with creative, some might even say organic, sound design and meticulous melancholic string harmonies. reversed is without a doubt a truly personal listening experience meant to be absorbed again and again.

sabb is back on noir music with an ethnic tech house tune destined to cause some serious heat over the rest of the summer season 2013. this might be his best effort to date. well let you be the judge of that. here is illusiones!

jäfar make a rapid return to the label and are back to grace the a side of fragil 019, while one half of the duo (elliot sindall) also pairs up with constantin nakov as seura on the flip. black mamba recalls certain aspects of jäfar s previous work on the label: the broken drum line, the subtle vocal samples and the global hypnotic aspect of the music. yet it is also radically different from marzsia. black mamba is a subtle but direct club track, aiming to get the dancers down through its heavy groove. the kick drum and low toms are strongly suggesting leg movement, joining forces with the snares and hats which call upon some serious head nodding.on the b side, white chapel is another broken beat club piece, but this time feels crafted for the afterhours. the groove is lighter and the heady feel is strong, closing the dancer s eyes and inviting them to drift through the music. once again, fragil comes up with original, well produced and highly danceable content, highlighting unsung talents for every versatile dj out there.
